To anyone who might be interested in the Karsh Birth Centenary issue from Canada featuring Winston Churchill,Audrey Hepburn and Yousuf Karsh and not wanting to pay those high asking prices from my fellow Canadian sellers....go to the Canada Post link or phone number <toll free > below. You will be able to buy at face value with no tax and Canada Post will pay for the return postage.....a win, win, win situation. You will actually be able to buy cheaper than Canadians in the country.

Sometimes the Royal Mint markets £5 commemorative coins like this, and it does rather undermine the essential principal than the issue be genuine and worth £5 as legal tender. Nobody would go to the trouble of posting you a £5 note postfree for £5 .

Rogermo: If it is too good to be true,it cannot be true............not in this case.As a Canadian if I order material frpm Canada Post I pay a GST but no postage for the goods;if you live outside of Canada your purchases from Canada Post are both tax free and postage free.I collect Sir Winston Churchill and for a number of years I have purchased new issues which are not that numerous directly from various Philatelic Bureaux around the world at face rather than paying the mark up of dealers and there are a surprising number of these enterprises that do not charge for return postage. Some are quite small and possibly by not charging for postage they hope to build up a client base.....St.Helena,British Indian Ocean Territories,Falkland Islands are a few that come to mind and of course Canada Post until further notice.I should point out that once Canada Post gets you to their site they are keen to sell you other stuff.........a Churchill tee shirt,Churchill drinking glasses.........all a grand ploy to sell you something but you can always resist and just buy your stamps at face and leave. Cheers! Jim

I'm sure that the vast majority of stamps printed for the British Indian Ocean Territory and the Falkland Islands never are used in those places, so they are not risking anything by selling them cheaply. Long ago a stamp dealer told me to my surprise that the Crown Agents sold mint stamps to dealers at a considerable discount. So if you bought a 7d stamp from him for 9d, you though he was making 2d profit which seemed reasonable, but really he was making much more.

The case of British coins is different, and the case of British and Canadian stamps could be similar to the coins. Nobody is going to sell dollars for less than a dollar each, or pounds for less than a pound each. Not unless they are in some way less than authentic.

Some collectors insist on buying only really authentic stuff intended for use or used, others don't mind. It's this distinction which I am probing at. Of course, anything new sitting in your collection is not being used anyway, and will probably never be used , no matter what might have been .

Look at the evidence for yourself.

I bought 4 coins from a worthy Italian gentleman on 6th May and paid for them all at once. He gave me feedback, at first of 100%, on two of them only (and has very frequently changed the wording since then). He always maintained that it was impossible to leave me feedback for the other two coins bought at the same time. Now in June he has found out how to do it, and has decided to give me 50%, but he is attempting a bargain whereby he will change this to 100%.

See what I mean ? But watch that space. He could very well change his mind again.
